Why is Character Building even more important than academics?Albert Einstein, the famous Swiss-American mathematician, physicist and public philosopher said, "Most people say that it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character." This same principle can be applied to our homeschool students.
Parents often get so caught up with the academic aspect of home education
that they forget one to build character into their child. They read
curriculum reviews, study the scopes and sequences, and attend workshops
and curriculum fairs with the hope of developing a student that can
hold his own and even excel in the world of academia. Some homeschool
parents think,” Perhaps, if I can construct the perfect learning
experience my child might be the next Einstein!” Yet I believe
that we are overlooking the most important quality to make our children
truly great…that is their character. Character
building does not just happen! Godly Character isn’t acquired
by osmosis or by hanging around the right people. It isn’t crafted
by going to church regularly or even by memorizing Bible verses. Your
child’s character has to be carefully constructed and cultivated
purposefully in efforts of developing the godly character that will
make your child truly great. |
